The Assignment Chronicles: WDfI

Web Design for Industry, Assignment 4. Or as I call it, “The Easy One”.
The brief for the project was a work of pure genius: “Write your own brief. And make it good!” Awesome!
Well, I went down to Creativityville (it’s next to Innovationhausen, you might want to check Google Maps) and brought with me the same idea about 90% of the course had. I’m building a portfolio! Can I get a “Yay”?
So I sat down and brainstormed and mind-mapped every damn idea about how I could present my person and my work. The first thing I found out is that I have even less personality than I expected. Furthermore, it’s actually quite hard to come up with a design that represents a human vacuum.
Luckily famous people have spent a fair share of their time in Creativityville as well, especially Mr Piet Mondrian. You know, the guy who painted amazing things like “Black grid. Blue square. Red square. It’s ART!” Actually this is just a lame excuse to defend that my design is based on black rectangles on a white background.
At least I managed to shoehorn as much Javascript into it as I could possibly do without adding it just to add it. It’s got a little Ajaxy contact form and a clicky-slidy portfolio page thingy. And everything’s also available to those people who prefer to deactivate their Javascript and eat puppies instead. You know, Buddhists. Oh, it’s also available in English and German.
The only thing I guess I will need to change once I decide to actually use the thing is add more PHP, especially to include the navigation on all pages instead of reusing the same code over and over again, since our lecturer isn’t a big fan of languages she does not teach. Swell.
Anyway, here you go.
